Our founders?
You’re looking
at the industry.
The people who build should help shape the way we build. BIMTA is an invitation to put that experience to work.

Founded on experience.
Built through contribution.
BIMTA’s mission is to provide Canada’s trade-contractor community with a unified voice in digital construction by identifying practical BIM challenges, testing measurable solutions, and developing guidance, training, recommendations, and repeatable processes that support profitable, sustainable, and trade-focused project delivery.
BIMTA’s founding invitation is to Canadian trade contractors, coordinators, detailers, fabricators, estimators and the people delivering the work. Your title matters less than the experience you can contribute.
“Industry as founders” is our founding philosophy, not a claim that companies or individuals have already joined. The initial model is a six-month proof of concept, shaped by participation and practical results.
Convened by Steven Spry, BIM specialist, consultant and instructor in Ottawa. Built with the industry.
You know where
the work gets stuck.
Bring an example of unclear scope, repeated effort or information that does not reach the people who need it.
You know another
way to do it.
Help test alternatives. Record the effort, the result and what needs to improve before anyone calls it a solution.
You make experience
available to others.
Explain, challenge and document. Turn one useful lesson into something the next person can apply.
Bring something useful.
Participation should create value for the trades and respect the time it takes.
A real problem, clearly described.
An honest measure of effort and outcome.
A willingness to test an alternative.
A useful lesson shared with permission.
A few useful answers.
The initial membership focus is Canada-based trade-level BIM practitioners and organisations: contractors, coordinators, detailers, fabricators, estimators, supervisors and installers. International advisors may participate by invitation and acceptance.
BIMTA is being developed around a proposed six-month proof of concept. Research and future programs will depend on interest, participation and demonstrated value.
No. BIMTA is an independent trade-focused initiative. It aims to help people apply and test requirements in practice, complementing existing standards organisations, professional bodies and training providers.
