What belongs here
Original explanations, general questions, permitted demonstrations and practical experience. Say what you tried, what you observed, the versions involved and what remains uncertain. Credit the source of someone else’s idea. Summarise in your own words; a citation does not grant permission to copy protected material.
What stays out
- Confidential models, drawings, screenshots, specifications, contracts, client files, pricing, credentials or restricted information.
- Project names, addresses, security arrangements, access codes or details that could identify a confidential project indirectly.
- Other people’s names, photographs, contact details or employment information. Describe a role instead.
- Employer or client information you are not authorised to publish. Keep forum discussions general and avoid identifying people, employers or projects.
- Harassment, discriminatory content, impersonation, allegations about named people or companies, spam or undisclosed commercial promotion.
Removing a logo may not make a project anonymous. Recreate a small generic example. Permission cannot override a confidentiality obligation or someone else’s rights. The forum is not the place to resolve a live employer or contract dispute.
How publication works
New topics and replies go live immediately when submitted with the required permissions. There is no approval queue for new contributions. Each contribution is shown only to its stated audience: public or signed-in members. The moderator can review, hide or remove content after publication. Publication is not professional certification, a confidentiality check or technical validation. Earlier pending submissions retain their previous status until handled by the owner.
Public content can be indexed, copied or retained by third parties. Removing it from BIMTA cannot retrieve those copies. You may remove your own contributions. Removing a question removes its answers too. The moderator can hide or delete content, pause an account’s posting and handle reports. Restrictions can be appealed through the private request form. There is no guaranteed response time or continuous monitoring.
BIM Trade Forum: short, practical conversations
Choose Coordination, Technologies, Standards or Trade Practice. Create a topic of up to 50 characters and a message of up to 1,000 characters. Replies are limited to 1,000 characters too. New topics and replies contain text only: no images, links, attachments, email addresses or HTML. A topic is created by a member; categories are maintained by BIMTA so discussions stay easy to find.
Sign in, accept the posting notice and publish. If you do not already have a BIMTA username, your first post generates one automatically. Your username and contribution appear publicly immediately. There are no mentoring roles, profile questionnaires or pre-publication approvals in this flow. Replies stay together under their topic in conversation order.
Earlier community contributions are read-only and keep their original audience, permissions and text. They are not automatically made public, shortened or deleted. You can access your contribution history through My BIMTA. Earlier private expressions of interest remain private. The separate mentoring, session and career-spotlight posting areas are paused.
Following a conversation
Following is optional. BIMTA stores the link between your account and a topic, its follow date and a last-read time to show new replies in My BIMTA. Unfollowing removes that record. No email notification is sent. Existing discussion pages remain excluded from search-engine indexing; public visibility is unchanged.
Member profiles and contribution history
Your first post reserves one unique BIM-inspired username for your signed-in account. Your generated name, join date and permitted contribution history appear on a public profile. Your sign-in email and account identifier are not displayed. Your username stays linked to your account and does not imply qualifications.
Profile activity and counts include only published contributions visible to the person viewing the profile. Member-only posts remain member-only even when their author creates a public profile. Earlier private interests are not published. Pending posts are excluded from public profiles and counts.
Open My BIMTA to find your topics and replies. Earlier follow records may retain a discussion identifier and last-read date; the simple forum does not add new follows or send email notifications. Request profile or follow-record removal through the private privacy form. There are no direct messages.
Privacy notice
The BIMTA site owner is the contact for community and privacy requests. Use the private form below while signed in. Describe an access, correction, withdrawal or privacy concern without repeating sensitive material. Replies appear under My private requests.
What is collected: your generated forum username, join date, category, topic, message, consent confirmations, dates and an account identifier used to manage ownership. Earlier records may retain their original role, permitted link or spotlight details under their original permissions. Sign-in supplies account details to the site; community records do not publish your sign-in email. Interest forms elsewhere on the site separately record the information shown on those forms.
Why: to publish and manage contributions, operate discussions, manage ownership and permissions, and respond to moderation or privacy requests. Reports, permission records and moderation notes are not part of the public feed. Notes intended for an author are visible to that author.
Who can see it: new BIM Trade Forum topics and replies explicitly submitted for public publication are available to everyone immediately. Older member-only contributions retain their stated signed-in audience. Pending content is available to its author and moderator. The owner handles private reports and requests. Hosting and sign-in providers process data needed to operate the service. Do not assume Canadian-only storage or use the site for confidential or regulated project data.
Submission controls: temporary account-linked counters limit repeated posting and enquiries. These counters contain no message text or email, survive content deletion, and older hourly windows are removed when later submissions arrive.
Retention and removal: contributions remain until removed by you or the moderator. Removal deletes the live contribution and its attached permission record; question removal also deletes its answers. Private requests and posting restrictions are retained for handling and follow-up until the owner removes them. You can request access, correction or deletion. Provider logs or backups may remain under the provider’s retention arrangements; instant removal from every backup is not promised.
Text-only forum: new posts accept no links, images, attachments or meeting listings. Editorial resource links elsewhere on BIMTA lead to providers with their own terms.
Optional website analytics
With your permission, BIMTA uses Google Analytics 4 on selected public information pages to understand visits, referral sources, device and browser details, and approximate geographic location. Google receives analytics data and uses a cookie identifier to distinguish browsers. These are estimates, not an identification of each person. Refusing analytics does not affect access to the site.
The Google tag loads only after you choose Accept analytics. Advertising storage, advertising personalisation and Google signals are disabled. We do not send your membership identifier, sign-in email, form answers or community content to Google Analytics. Account, administration, verification, community, privacy-request and support-enquiry pages are excluded. Our page-view events use fixed public page names and URLs without query strings or fragments. On eligible public pages, a resource_open event records only a fixed resource name when you open a checklist, budget, worked example or issue. It does not record your answers, notes, search text or calculator values; referral information is limited to the referring website.
Your choice is stored in this browser for up to 180 days. Analytics cookies are configured with a 180-day lifetime without automatic renewal. Use Analytics preferences in any footer to change your choice. Rejecting stops optional Google Analytics collection and removes its BIMTA analytics cookies in this browser. It does not erase data already received by Google. Clearing browser storage may cause this notice to appear again.
Google may process analytics data outside Canada under its own policies. Google Analytics reporting retention is controlled separately in the BIMTA owner’s Google Analytics account. Essential hosting and sign-in processing is separate from this optional analytics choice. See Google’s privacy policy and how Google uses information from sites using its services. For a privacy question, use the private request form below.
Sponsor and funding enquiries
Support forms collect your name, sign-in email, optional organisation and indicated amount, area of interest, message, consent and dates. These records and replies are available only to you and the BIMTA owner, for discussing support and keeping track of the conversation. They do not subscribe you to a newsletter and are not published as sponsor endorsements.
You can view or delete your enquiry in My BIMTA. Deletion removes the live enquiry and reply; it does not cancel a separate agreement or erase required financial records held elsewhere. The owner should close enquiries when handled and remove inactive enquiry records once no longer needed. Provider logs and backups follow the provider’s retention arrangements.
Do not send bank information, card details or identity documents through an enquiry. If online payments are enabled, card information is entered on the linked payment provider, under its own privacy policy and terms. BIMTA does not store card details. Contact and refund terms must be available before checkout.
Use advice with judgment
Answers describe contributors’ experience and assumptions. Check the software version, source and result before relying on them. A forum answer does not authorise construction, replace engineering review, interpret your contract or change site procedures. No outcome, employment offer or professional qualification is guaranteed by appearing here.
Privacy sources behind this approach
The Canadian Privacy Commissioner explains that meaningful consent should make the information, purposes, parties and consequences understandable. Being publicly visible does not by itself make personal information unrestricted for reuse. Applicability depends on the activity and relevant privacy law; nonprofit status alone is not an exemption.
Sources checked 17 October 2026. These safeguards are not a legal opinion or a guarantee against liability. Before adding new data uses or upload features, the operator must review applicable law, privacy contact arrangements, retention and moderation capacity.
