The future of BIM
has work boots on.
Understand the scope. Price the effort. Put BIM to work for your trade.

BIM should work
for the people
doing the work.
Too often, the trades inherit the requirements. BIMTA exists to help the trades shape them. We bring practical experience together to identify problems, test better methods and turn evidence into guidance people can use.

A standard becomes useful when people understand what it asks for, how to apply it and how to check the result.

Ideas worth
bringing to work.
Perspectives, research questions and practical methods. Clear about what is proven and what still needs testing.
The most expensive BIM requirement is the one nobody uses.
Before adding another field, ask who needs it, what decision it supports and who pays to maintain it.

A practical test for AI and automation: establish the baseline, check the output and count the rework.

More proof.
AI, automation, open data and model-to-fabrication workflows deserve a fair test. Start small. Check the output. Measure the complete task.

An illustration of time saved, before setup, review and maintenance costs. Not a BIMTA research result.

A few useful answers.
The initial membership focus is Canada-based trade-level BIM practitioners and organisations: contractors, coordinators, detailers, fabricators, estimators, supervisors and installers. International advisors may participate by invitation and acceptance.
BIMTA is being developed around a proposed six-month proof of concept. Research and future programs will depend on interest, participation and demonstrated value.
No. BIMTA is an independent trade-focused initiative. It aims to help people apply and test requirements in practice, complementing existing standards organisations, professional bodies and training providers.
